Love The Bay Community Space on The Parade Island Bay
Island Bay gets to find out on Sunday how much love has been generated by the Love the Bay Community Space, which opened on August 8.
Sunday is the first of nine workshops to be held in Island Bay over the next three months to help develop a 10-year plan.
‘Love the Bay’ Community Space is a joint venture by the Island Bay Residents Association, Wellington City Council and Cycle Aware.
The objective of the space is to get the local community involved in designing the 10 year plan for Island Bay.
Coloured post-it notes on the walls voice what Island Bay residents think would make their community even better.
Unsurprisingly, the cycleway looms large.

“Remove the Cycleway!” was one note, countered by “I hope we can find a way to keep the new cycleway because it feels so much safer”.
“Friendlier people” requests one note. “The cycleway debacle has been horrible”, says another.
Vicki Greco, chair of the Island Bay Resident’s Association, is encouraging the community to get involved and talk about what they want for the Parade as a whole.
“It’s not only about the cycleway,” she said at the last meeting of the Island Bay Resident’s Association in August.
“It might mean no cycleway. Put it back the way it was as some of you are asking, or it might mean something totally different, something better.
“Either way, we are developing a whole new consultative process here.”
Also at the meeting, resident Rob Page call for people to work together.
“We all need to stop fighting each other,” Mr Page says.
Sunday’s workshop will be held at the Baptist Church on the Parade from 1pm.
